Hi everyone! After a little blogging break I’m back to reflect on one of my favourite places here in Northern Ireland, that has gifted Coppertop and I with many special memories.
Antrim has a stunningly scenic coastline with many different attractions ,but the place closest to my heart would be Glenarm. From the Walled Garden in the castle grounds with its beautiful floral displays, water features, fruit trees and allotments, to the magical forest walk and pretty beach. We discovered Glenarm forest after walking up through the town and ended up spending a few unexpected hours surrounded by the most enchanting elements of nature in Autumn.
We spotted red squirrels, blackberries, sloe berries, rose hips and even some lingering raspberries. We collected lots of different fallen leaves, looked for fairies, breathed in the intoxicating scent of wild honeysuckle and watched pheasants roaming beside the fields of organic barley. We jumped in puddles, threw sticks in the river, listened to rushing waterfalls, watched sun rays through the forest canopy while the birdsong provided the soundtrack for our adventures.
We then left the forest to indulge in one of my favourite activities – sea glass foraging! I have a mild (strong) obsession with sea glass, so unique and beautiful. Coppertop and I adore hunting through the shells and pebbles for the exciting glimpse of seafoam, emerald or cobalt gems twinkling in the sand. There’s something romantic in knowing that the shape of each piece of tossed aside glass has been tumbled and shaped by the ocean herself. Coppertop and I could spend hours sorting through all our beach treasures to find which ones can be used for my jewellery (Etsy store here) or for our craft days. It’s such a wonderful activity, slowly walking along a beach in the sunshine, listening to the waves, paying attention to all the different things on the shore. Especially while Coppertop throws pebbles in the sea, splashes in the waves or shouts out excitedly when she finds her own sea glass.
It’s been such a mild Autumn so far that we’ve been lucky enough to have a few of these beach foraging sessions which always leave me feeling restored and uplifted. Even if a certain someone ends up with half the ocean in her boots every time 😉 ……..can’t wait to see what nature adventures the next few months bring! 🙂
