Morning everyone! Happy Monday 🙂 I’ll be starting off my morning with this yummy vibrant turmeric chai spiced porridge again today so I thought I’d share the recipe with all of you. There are so many reported health benefits to turmeric, better sleep, cancer prevention and reduction, eye health, lifts depression, better liver health, natural painkiller and anti-inflammatory…definitely worth including regularly in your diet. I use it a lot in curries but when I came across a picture of turmeric oatmeal I knew I had to try it like this! I also have to try it as a warm drink which is really popular, I think it’s known as golden milk. Will be lovely in spiced warm almond or coconut milk! I’ve included my ever present cinnamon in this because…well, because it’s cinnamon and it makes everything better 😉 a little black pepper in the mix increases the bioavailability of the turmeric so your body utilises it properly. The turmeric paste keeps for 5 days in the fridge if you’re wanting to make extra. If you’ve time, soak the oats in the milk overnight so they’ll be extra creamy 🙂
TURMERIC CHAI PORRIDGE (serves 2)
Ingredients
- 1 cup of jumbo rolled oats
- 2 cups plant milk, I prefer almond or coconut
- 1 1/2 tsp turmeric paste ( 2 part ground turmeric to 1 part boiling water, mixed)
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground ginger or 1 tsp freshly grated ginger
- 1/2 tsp vanilla
- black pepper
Method
Soak oats in the milk overnight if possible. Warm the mixture gently in a pan. When it starts to heat up, add in all the spices. Cook until desired consistency. You can stir through maple syrup at this point if you want but I choose not to sweeten it. Top with fresh fruit, coconut yoghurt etc. Enjoy!
As always I’d love to hear your feedback if you try this. Feel free to subscribe, drop me a comment or check out my Instagram below. Happy Monday everyone 🙂
