The tree of life was called 'crann bethadh' by the Ancient Celts, representing balance and harmony in nature, strength and wisdom. It symbolised their deep connection with nature, the realisation that without greenery there would be no life. When a tribe discovered a new place to settle they chose a strong sturdy tree. The area around the tree was cleared but this tree remained as the centre of their settlement and called Crann Bethadh.
